Jerry Kernan makes being 90 look like fun. Instead of sitting in a rocking chair, Jerry is resting at the bottom of Delerium Dive at Sunshine Village, looking back up at the impressive face he has just skied. It’s far from the first time Jerry has skied this run, but it is the first time he (or anyone else) has skied it as a 90-year old.
Want to get a head start on your ski season? Or are you just sick of the summer heat and desperate for snow? The southern hemisphere has a few options for Canadian skiers, but none are particularly easy to get to. So, is it worth the effort?
For those who don’t remember, Puskas was one of the best-known Rockies skiers in the 2000s and 2010s—loved by photographers for his ability to make a pretty turn in almost any snow conditions and his unflappable air style (not to mention a willingness to huck huge). Puskas had photos in every ski magazine that existed during that time. He also filmed parts for Theory 3 Media and B4Apres back in the DVD days.
Mark Hendrickson is one of Fresh’s favourite athletes. The Calgary-born and raised park skier has been on the Canadian National Team since 2014 and has numerous top ten finishes on the Slopestyle World Cup circuit, including a first place in 2020 in Front Romeu, France. A world-class skier who’s travelled to the best terrain parks on every continent but knows our local resorts? He’s the perfect guy to help us choose the right park skis!
North America’s only stop on the Freeride World Tour, Kicking Horse, has seen its fair share of memorable moments including Tanner Hall’s first foray onto the FWT and Yu Sasaki’s massive 25m drop off the pyramid cliff in the middle of Ozone. Last Friday, Kicking Horse welcomed the tour, and all the rest of us, with 40cm of recent snow and the sun shining.
Martin Lefebvre, who’s been guiding the camps for almost a decade, and Eric Hjorleifson have a lot to teach would-be backcountry skiers, so we asked their campers to chime in with some of the best advice they’ve received from the duo.
Not just a national park, Waterton is part of the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park in conjunction with Glacier National Park in Montana. The international border adds complication but we want to ski the American’s steep lines and fresh powder.
